Overview

This unit focuses on the essential requirements you will need to understand in order to apply safe, quality care, and risk management in the care of older people and those with chronic conditions. Access, equity and cultural safety for individuals and families from diverse populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are key foci in the unit. The unit content is founded in person and family centred care with evidence-based practice principles.
You will consider Nursing and midwifery roles and models of care in terms of the changing needs of ageing communities. These roles are emphasised in relation to involving older people, those living with chronic conditions and their carers in decisions.
You will explore safe, quality health care and nursing practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in addition to other underserved communities. Strength-based and socially inclusive approaches for safe and quality nursing and midwifery practice and skills are emphasised.
