Enrolment rules

Must be enrolled in course code M6031 in the Cancer nursing specialisation.

You must have approval from your employer who is an agreed partner health service. The agreed partner health service will provide a clinical nurse educator to undertake clinical assessments.

You must be employed in a cancer care clinical area as a Registered Nurse at a minimum 0.6EFT.

Overview

This unit builds upon the foundations established in unit NUR5016 and extends your knowledge of advanced cancer nursing care using an evidence-based approach.
This unit will prepare you to provide advanced care to cancer patients, symptom management and end of life care. 
The role of the specialist cancer nurse in the multidisciplinary team is examined including clinical leadership.
You will learn about effective communication and therapeutic relationships with patient groups and families.
This unit will cover topics such as cancer nursing for diverse communities and priority populations and transitions in care for people living with cancer.

    Plan effective transitions in care across different care programs and settings for people with cancer

    Evaluate symptom management in palliative and end of life care for patients and families

  7. 7

    Analyse legal and ethical issues in palliative and end of life care for people living with cancer

    Communicate knowledge and skills associated with the care of people with cancer to others in a professional and empathetic manner
