Overview

Study in this unit will equip mental health nurses with the diverse knowledge, skills and attitudes required to work collaboratively with consumers, families and their caregivers in order to support the person in their recovery.

You will examine the biopsychosocial factors that influence a person’s mental health along with common mental health disorders that are experienced across the lifespan and in all socioeconomic and cultural groups.

This unit will also facilitate the development of skills in screening and the assessment of common mental health disorders and in planning and evaluating person-centred mental health nursing interventions that are recovery focused. Additionally, you will explore legal and ethical issues, and policies pertaining to mental health nursing that support care delivery, inform safe practice and optimise health outcomes for consumers, their families and caregivers.
