Overview
Cardiac nursing requires specialised skills and understanding of cardiac care, pathophysiology, and management. This unit provides an introduction to advanced cardiac nursing principles and practice. You will develop skills to care for cardiac patients using a holistic approach. Key factors associated with managing risks and providing evidence-based care to cardiac patients across their journeys from initial presentation to recovery will be explored. Your study will include the care and management of patients with cardiac conditions such as acute coronary syndrome, heart failure and haemodynamic compromise. The unit will include study of relevant technology and assessment systems used in patient care and management. Examination of the role of nurses in different contexts of cardiac nursing will also be investigated; including working within the multidisciplinary team and the provision of quality care to cardiac patients who have varying needs.
