Overview

This unit builds on concepts and content from NURXXX Perioperative Nursing 1 to enable you to develop knowledge and skills related to specific speciality areas and advanced practice roles within the perioperative setting. Surgical specialty areas studied include orthopaedics, neurosurgery, trauma, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery. You will explore the complex care required in special populations that present to the perioperative setting (for example obstetrics, elderly, paediatric and bariatric patients). This unit will prepare you to engage with the interdisciplinary team during advanced perioperative care.

Workload and teaching

  • Tutorials56 hours

A total of 24 hours teaching directed and student directed study/week. Teacher directed study includes online learning activities and tutorials in flexible delivery (on-campus or on-line). Tutorials will involve 7 x 8 hour sessions during the semester. Must be working at least 0.6 FTE in a perioperative setting.
