Sport and exercise nutrition
NUT2003
Synopsis
In this unit, you will develop a fundamental understanding of sports nutrition, focusing on how nutrition supports exercise performance, training adaptations, and recovery. You will explore the major energy systems used during different types of exercise and learn how various training modalities influence the energy and nutrient needs of active individuals.
Through fortnightly online workshops, weekly lectures, online teacher directed activities, and readings, you will apply general sports nutrition guidelines to assess energy, macronutrient, and hydration requirements for individuals engaged in sport or physical activity. You will also learn about the role of carbohydrate, protein, fat, and key micronutrients in supporting athletic performance.
You will gain practical skills in interpreting dietary and activity-related data to provide clear, evidence-based nutrition advice. Additionally, you will communicate clear and accessible information about sports nutrition.
The unit is delivered fully online, allowing you to engage flexibly with interactive workshops, small group discussions, and applied case studies designed to support your learning and confidence in sports nutrition principles. You will learn from athletes and sports nutrition leaders.
