Pre-requisite: NUT1011 or successful completion of relevant unit containing a substantial (>50%) nutrition content- on a case to case bases, reviewed and confirmed by unit co-ordinator.

Prohibition: Course codes M2001 and M6002      

Overview

In this unit you will be introduced to the concepts of nutrition in sport and exercise. You will learn about how nutrition influences physiology in sport and exercise.
Each week you will engage in online learning, with online lectures and readings.
There will be online tutorials and discussions where you will be able to work with a small group of students and an expert tutor.
You will learn about individual’s nutritional needs before, during and after exercise, and also focus on nutrition for different sport and exercise activities with the ability to apply this to your own sporting interests.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Describe the energy systems used during exercise, biochemical and physiological alterations that occur in response to exercise, and list and/or critically evaluate how nutrition influences these alterations.

    Outline the general guidelines and recommendations for nutrition provisions before, during and after exercise; and critically appraise their application to different sports.

  3. 3

    Identify the differences between nutritional guidelines and recommendations for various sports and exercise against real-world professional practice.

  4. 4

    Explain the key nutritional considerations for a particular sport and/or athlete group.

  5. 5

    Collect, manage, process, and interpret group and individual exercise response data, and determine how data interpretation influences professional practice.

  • Simulated workshops (8 hours over the unit delivery timeline).
