Overview

The unit forms a key element of Theme 4 –Research and Practice in Nutrition.  It provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in nutrition, food and medical sciences as learned throughout Years 1, 2 and 3 of the program in a workplace environment such as community, retail, non-governmental organizations, sports or corporate settings.  During the placement, students will be required to work independently and, in a team, to design and implement an effective evidence-based nutrition program to clients as required by the host organization. Through these activities, students will gain insights and practical experience as a nutritionist in real-life settings. An academic supervisor and an on-site supervisor will be appointed to monitor each student’s progress throughout the internship. In addition to completion of the required 480 hours of placement, students must complete a series of academic assessments by the on-site supervisor and Monash university’s academic advisor to ensure successful completion of the unit.
