Clinical education and leadership in paramedic research and practice

PAR3022

Synopsis

This unit will prepare you in your final-year for the transition to registered professional practice, developing the knowledge, skills, and leadership required for independent practice.
You will explore professionalism, including ethical decision-making, professional accountability, and navigating the employment and registration process as a registered healthcare professional.
The unit will build your research skills by equipping you with the knowledge and skills to critically appraise evidence, translate research into practice, and design and implement a pilot research project.
Patient safety and quality improvement are emphasised through strategies to manage risk, optimise care, and enhance outcomes in paramedic settings. In clinical education, you will apply educational theories to design effective health education strategies for patients and provide mentorship and feedback to peers and junior clinicians, strengthening therapeutic relationships and professional development. The unit also develops clinical leadership, enabling you to evaluate leadership styles, lead teams effectively, and apply skills in communication, prioritisation, delegation, and collaboration across complex out-of-hospital environments.
By integrating professionalism, research, patient safety, clinical education, and leadership, this unit will ensure you are ready to transition successfully to registered paramedic practice and to assume emerging leadership roles within the profession.
