Overview
This unit will enable you to facilitate your development at an advanced level of knowledge and skills related to the critical care management of patients with traumatic injuries. To further extend your knowledge and skills, Trauma care is approached from the contextual perspective of contemporary trauma systems, time critical guidelines and trauma triage criteria. You will analyse specific traumatic injuries in depth and develop advanced clinical skills to effectively manage these conditions.
You must be actively engaged in appropriate clinical practice, clinical placements or clinical simulation to achieve the outcomes of this unit.

Examine the structure of trauma systems, support structures and triage criteria to recognise the role of prehospital trauma care.

Integrate principles of trauma-related pathophysiology and physiology with critical care interventions and clinical management strategies.

Formulate appropriate pharmacotherapeutic and treatment regimens using the relevant drugs and clinical interventions available for the critical care management of trauma.

Analyse contemporary evidence to determine best practice approaches for management of trauma at a critical care level.

Professionally manage trauma and environmental emergencies at an intensive care paramedic level.
