Must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Allied Health Course (M2022).
Overview
You will gain an understanding of your role as a podiatrist within the larger interprofessional healthcare setting. Through supervised practice, you will have the opportunity to apply your podiatry knowledge and skills in assessment, treatment and client education within a simulated setting. You will be exposed to professional, ethical and legal aspects of podiatry care and you will have opportunities to develop technical, clinical, personal and professional skills. The skills you develop in this unit will help you develop the competencies required for independent practice as a podiatrist.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

Explain the role of podiatrists in current practice and similarities and differences from other health professionals within a collaborative practice environment.

Communicate appropriately and effectively across written and verbal mediums, with clients in a simulated setting.

Conduct relevant skin, nail and neurovascular assessments of the lower limb in a simulated setting.
- 4
Demonstrate podiatric neurovascular assessments, nail care, sharps debridement and non-complex or acute wound care in a simulated setting.

Provide appropriate podiatric interventions in different clinical contexts.
- 6
Demonstrate professional behaviour in care and rights that is culturally sensitive and in accordance with legal requirements.
Workload and teaching
- Practical activities72 hours
4 hours of simulated supervised hands-on practical sessions per week,
4 hours per week of self-directed study.
Total per week = 8 hours for 18 weeks
