Overview

In this unit you will develop and apply your knowledge and skills to work with children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and families from diverse backgrounds and in a range of practice contexts emphasising on promotion of well-being, resolving mental health challenges and identifying prevention strategies.
This unit develops your understanding of the approaches, practice framework and processes for ethically working with children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics in relation to mental health practice reflecting a commitment to social justice.
The unit provides opportunities for skills development for working with children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and families by using researcher-practitioner and evidence-based practice models of mental health and well-being.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Appraise different mental health and well-being theories, research methods and practice of mental health and well-being across the life span.

    Apply evidence-based and scientist-practitioner approach in proposing solutions to mental health issues and promoting well-being among children, adolescents, young adults and elderly  population and creating awareness to community regarding mental health and ageing.

  3. 3

    Identify risk and protective factors for well-being and mental health across the life span.

  4. 4

    Critically analyse developmental theories and research to solve mental health issues among diverse communities ranging from child population to geriatrics.

  5. 5

    Apply concepts and theories to create awareness about aetiological factors and promote mental health literacy among different age groups and communities.

  6. 6

    Recognise the significance of ethical guidelines and associated issues in the practice and research of mental health.
