Overview

In this unit you will develop your existing knowledge of digital imaging systems and angiography from Semester 1. You will learn about evidence-based practice and basic research principles, digital health and the health care needs of vulnerable populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will learn about infection control principles, including in aseptic and sterile environments. You will critically consider how the regulation of practice for radiographers applies to your practice as a radiographer, including the requirements for managing a deteriorating patient and culturally safe practice. You will consolidate your radiographic methods to an advanced level.

  1. 1

    Explain and apply the scientific principles, technological characteristics and relevant applications of digital imaging systems;

  2. 2

    Explain the general applications of information technology in medical imaging and its relationship to digital based imaging systems;

  3. 3

    Implement basic digital image processing routines in general or digital vascular imaging and discuss how the application of these tools enables quantitative and qualitative image analysis;

  4. 4

    Implement and evaluate quality assurance principles in digital imaging systems;

  5. 5

    Implement effective infection control practices, and appropriate management of a deteriorating patient;

  6. 6

    Discuss and apply safe practice, especially in regard to cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and vulnerable populations;

  7. 7

    Develop, modify and adapt radiographic skills required to perform angiography;

  8. 8

    Critically apply ethical concepts, and knowledge of the Australian regulatory framework to the practice of radiography;

  9. 9

    Apply evidence-based practice (EBP) to radiographic practice and identify how a range of research methods and the critique of reported research benefits medical radiation sciences;

  10. 10

    Critically evaluate the ethical and legal implications of research within medical radiation science;

  11. 11

    Define digital health and its role in contemporary health care setting;
