Medical imaging science and practice 2
RAD3042
Synopsis
In this unit, you will advance your knowledge and skills in key areas of radiographic and sonographic practice. Building on your previous learning, you will explore five interconnected themes: Sonographic Practice and Science, Radiographic Practice, Breast Imaging, Research and Dosimetry Techniques. Through these themes, you will develop the ability to interpret abdominal ultrasound images by integrating anatomical and physiological knowledge, apply appropriate imaging protocols in simulated or clinical settings, and justify your clinical decisions. You will enhance your knowledge of ultrasound instrumentation and how it informs image acquisition in practice.
In the area of radiographic and breast imaging, you will analyse mammographic techniques and psychosocial considerations that support patient-centred care. You will also learn to apply clinical reasoning to perform radiographic examinations in clinical practice.
You will explore principles of radiation interaction and dosimetry, enabling evaluation of dose modelling across different imaging contexts. You will be introduced to foundational research skills, data collection strategies and basic statistical analysis, to support evidence-based decision-making in medical imaging.
