Requisites

Overview

In this unit, you will cover the: loco-motor, lymphatic, cardio-vascular, and haematological systems.

You will study the principles and applications of radiation therapy planning, treatment, and patient care. You will be able to analyse and evaluate radiation therapy planning approaches and planning evaluation tools. This unit includes simulated learning online treatment planning activities that will allow you to develop further clinical and professional skills in planning.

You will analyse and evaluate the principles of quality assurance, clinical governance, health care standards, and the safe use of medicines in radiation therapy.

Whilst studying these topics, you will be encouraged to critically reflect, analyse and synthesis relevant information from the literature and reflect on your experiences.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Identify and describe in detail; structural and sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and oncology related to: loco-motor, lymphatic, and cardiovascular systems.

    Critically analyse and reflect on evidence-based radiation therapy planning, treatment and verification techniques for the loco-motor, lymphatic, and cardiovascular systems.

  3. 3

    Describe radiation therapy side effects and analyse interdisciplinary, culturally inclusive patient care and evidence-based management strategies for the loco-motor, lymphatic, and cardiovascular systems.

  4. 4

    Demonstrate intermediate beginner level approaches to radiation therapy treatment planning and evaluate the clinical application of these for cancers of the loco-motor, lymphatic, and cardiovascular systems.

  5. 5

    Apply the principles of radiation safety, quality management, digital health, occupational health and safety.

  6. 6

    Appraise imaging modalities and plan evaluation tools used in radiotherapy.

  7. 7

    Demonstrate intermediate beginner level approaches to contouring and analyse the clinical applications of contouring tools.

  8. 8

    Evaluate the principles of effective and respectful working collaborations with the multidisciplinary team.

During weeks 5-12 (non-clinical weeks) x 8 hours of online tutorial sessions (1 x 1-hour sessions per week). Additional support sessions (up to 1 hr per week) may also be scheduled ad-hoc.

22 hours self-directed study per week.
