Overview
In this unit, you will develop and illustrate an in-depth understanding of bioinformatics, and its use in conjunction with genomics, for application in translational research. This will include the basics of coding and how to work in a high-performance compute facility.
Discipline-specific topics will include bioinformatics, statistics and experimental design. Developing a fundamental understanding of bioinformatics will provide you with a contextual basis to identify and evaluate the appropriate bioinformatic tools to apply across different medical disciplines. You will learn how bioinformatics can be used to: identify biomarkers associated with disease, diagnose disease, or gain insights into the molecular underpinnings of disease.
You will learn from specialist researchers and clinicians actively working in the bioinformatics discipline. You will review and evaluate methodological and scientific literature in bioinformatics and disease with a focus on clinical and translational medicine. You will develop an in-depth knowledge of how bioinformatics can be applied to address cutting-edge research questions.
