Overview
In this unit, you will develop and demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the molecular, cellular and pathophysiological changes in the immune system that contribute to inflammation, allergy and other diseases, to provide a contextual basis to identify patient outcomes, justify the use of appropriate immunotherapies to answer patient-specific problems and evaluate pathways to translate immunological research findings into clinical practice.
Discipline-specific topics will include Primary Immune Deficiency, allergy, autoimmunity, transplantation, mucosal immunology, immunoparasitology, cancer and vaccines.
This unit will consist of online specialist lectures delivered by researchers and clinicians actively working in the immunology discipline and eLearning resources. You will review and evaluate clinical and scientific literature in immunology and immunotherapy, with a focus on clinical and translational medicine perspectives, and present this information in written form, and via oral presentations and posters suitable for a conference presentation. This unit will provide you with an in-depth clinical and translational research knowledge base to generate cutting-edge research questions, and to develop the ability to undertake inquiry-based research.

Evaluate how the arms of the immune response are regulated and integrated
- 3
Recognise immunological processes and immunotherapeutic targets involved in disease
- 4
Evaluate appropriate tools and techniques for use in immunotherapy in the clinical setting
- 5
Critically appraise and communicate the key concepts and conclusions from translational immunological research literature to a professional audience
- 6
Develop a specific research question grounded in a critical review of the clinical and scientific literature related to immunological diseases and immunotherapy
