Overview

Knowledge and understanding of accounting is an essential requirement for successful management. The wide range of units offered by the Department of Accounting caters for aspirants seeking success in the accounting profession and also others, majoring in related disciplines, seeking to be competent users of accounting reports.

The major includes units that concentrate attention on the preparation and audit of financial reports for managers, owners and other interested parties. Validated and effective financial reports enable performance measurement and control of individuals, teams, corporations, non-government organisations, governments and other entities.

Availability
Accounting is offered in B2001 Bachelor of Commerce at Clayton and in B2000 Bachelor of Business at Caulfield as a major and minor.

Structure

Bachelor of Business option48 credit points
If you are studying the Bachelor of Business you must complete ACF, BFF and BTF-coded units. ACX, BEX and BTX-coded units must be undertaken at your home campus, unless undertaking the unit in the October teaching period, or it impacts on course progression.

Additional business units

12 credit points
You must complete 12 credit points from the following units, with at least one unit at level 3. Please note. if you are considering BTF2000 or BTX2000, you may only choose to complete one of the two units, to be included in your 12 credit points. If you are considering ECF1200 or ECX1200, you may only choose to complete one of the two units, to be included in your 12 credit points.

Units required for Professional Accounting Accreditation

12 credit points
If you are seeking membership to ACCA, CA ANZ or CPA you should complete the following units. Some of these units will need to be completed in Free elective study. ACX3900 must be completed as the course capstone unit. Double degree: Please note, if you are completing the Accounting major as part of your double degree, ECX2953 is required for professional accreditation and can be completed in Part A instead of ECF1100.
Bachelor of Commerce option48 credit points
If you are studying the Bachelor of Commerce you must complete ACC, BFC and BTC-coded units. ACX, BEX and BTX-coded units must be undertaken at your home campus unless undertaking the unit in the October teaching period, or it impacts on course progression..

Additional commerce units

12 credit points
You must complete 12 credit points from the following units, with at least one unit at level 3. If you are considering BFC2140 or BFX2140, you may only choose to complete one of the two units, to be included in your 12 credit points. Please note. If you are considering BTC2000 or BTX2000, you may only choose to complete one of the two units, to be included in your 12 credit points.
