Overview

The major in Behavioural studies has a particular focus on social behaviour. In this major you will develop a strong understanding of human and social behaviour that complement a range of units offered within the Bachelor of Arts. The discipline draws on historical and emerging insights from psychological, philosophical, biological, cultural and political explanations of human behaviour. 

The Behavioural studies major provides you with a strong foundation in social research methods, and will enable you to develop skills highly valued by employers, including interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork skills and critical reasoning and analytical skills. On completion you will have developed an advanced level of emotional intelligence, giving you insight into your own behaviour and motivations of yourself and of others, making you socially savvy and a highly marketable employee.

Learning outcomes

In addition to achieving the broad outcomes of your course, and successfully completing this area of study, you will be able to:

    understand and explain the key cognitive and psychosocial processes and concepts underpinning different forms of human behaviour including social, political, physical and mental health, and economic behaviour;

  2. 2

    apply theoretical and research approaches to human behaviour, in order to identify various societal problems and develop potential interventions to help shape better human behaviour and communities;

  3. 3

    evaluate the psychological, sociocultural, and structural mechanisms underpinning human behaviour, and the relationship of these to other societal, political and environmental influences.
