Overview
Honours in Economics is an intensive year of coursework that builds on your undergraduate training with more technical rigour and, above all, the opportunity to conduct your own research project under the supervision of an academic economist. This is where you learn to frame research questions, analyse data, apply theory, and communicate findings — the skills at the heart of independent research.
Advanced training in economics enhances your ability to engage with and address pressing questions in public policy and industry. For example, how should we evaluate the impacts of introducing or changing taxation or welfare programs? How responsive should macroeconomic policy be to updates in inflation, employment, GDP, or market data? How should digital platforms design their prices and matching rules to maximise their long-run profitability, and in what circumstances can a regulator intervene to improve overall welfare? The Economics Honours year equips you to analyse economic questions rigorously, developing the problem-solving and analytical skills that make economics graduates highly valued in government, consulting, central banks, policy institutions, and across industry.
