Overview
This double degree course combines the deep focus of the Bachelor of Global Studies and the Bachelor of Information Technology.
The Bachelor of Global Studies course has been designed for students who seek to be leaders in applying their knowledge to these global challenges. The course aims to develop leadership for social change focussing on key capabilities: creativity, teamwork, cross-cultural collaboration, critical thinking, self-learning, analytical writing skills. We seek to cultivate a rich understanding of the interplay of local, regional and global forces and equip you with sharp analytical abilities and flexible, imaginative and well-informed disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. All core units will enable you to apply your learning in practical and professional 'real life' contexts.
A key component of the course is a required period of study overseas that can be completed intensively at a Monash international campus or at a prestigious partner university.
Part of the required overseas component of the Bachelor of Global Studies can be completed by accessing the Monash Global Immersion Guarantee – a guaranteed funded overseas experience, which is one of Monash's Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE). For information on eligibility please see FREE. The Global Immersion Guarantee provides you the opportunity to spend two weeks studying overseas, with airfares and accommodation all covered as part of the degree.
This Bachelor of Information Technology is about the application of computer-based technologies and systems to meet individual and organisational information needs. The course will enable you to gain the knowledge and skills needed to use IT effectively and to use, develop and manage IT-based systems. The flexibility of the course and the range of majors and minors will allow you to explore new areas, develop your strengths in IT and pursue your interests. It is a highly practical course that will prepare you for a career working with information and IT in business, government and industry.
The course covers a wide range of aspects of IT, from technical computing, which focuses on the technology itself, games and multimedia to information and business-related themes, which focus on information needs and the way in which IT can be used to support them. In addition to core studies in fundamental IT concepts, the course provides you with a choice of majors in your preferred fields of study, as well as the option to take a second major within IT or in another discipline. Knowledge and skills in IT coupled with the emphasis on generic skills problem solving, information literacy, communication and presentation skills, project management skills, and the capacity for team work will ensure that you have a firm foundation for a career in IT.
If you are an eligible student you may apply for the industry-based learning (IBL) placement program, in which you undertake one or two 22-week, full-time industry placements as part of the curriculum. Through the IBL placement program you will apply the skills and knowledge you have gained directly in a professional organisation.

Bachelor of Global Studies
A2001 Bachelor of Global Studies is a specialist course that develops through two themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to address the key challenges facing the global community and in-depth expertise in your specialised area of study to enable you to effect change.
Part A. Leadership, culture and globalisation
You will compare and contrast a range of solutions in different historical, linguistic, cultural, and geographical settings, focussing especially on developing an understanding of effective leadership across a range of contexts to formulate practical and innovative approaches to global challenges.
Part B. Global studies specialist knowledge
These units will provide in-depth knowledge of the specific facet of global studies that comprises your specialisation, providing you with the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge needed to critically analyse, communicate and apply your disciplinary knowledge.
Bachelor of Information Technology
C2000 Bachelor of Information Technology course is a comprehensive course structured in three equal parts, in the double degree you complete:
Part A. Information technology specified study
This will provide you with foundation skills and knowledge for your IT education and ensure a breadth of understanding of IT and its applications in organisations and society.
Part B. Information technology listed major
This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one area of information technology. You will develop the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge in your chosen major needed to successfully plan, develop, implement and evaluate information products and systems.

Students must complete 192 points, of which 96 points are from the Bachelor of Global Studies (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree) and 96 points from the Bachelor of Information Technology (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree).

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites demonstrating the required level of performance in Year 12or equivalent in English
VET Diploma graduates: To be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with an Information Technology or Humanities or Social Science based diploma will require an average result of at least 70%. Applicants who have not completed VCE but have completed an Information Technology or Humanities or Social Science based diploma will require an average result of at least 80% Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements.
University: To be considered on the basis of tertiary study alone, applicants who have completed VCE or equivalent will be required to complete the equivalent of one year (48 credit points) of a recognised university degree and will require an average result of at least 70% (including failed units). For applicants who have completed less than the equivalent of one year of study, both the senior secondary qualification results and the units completed will be considered.
For applicants who do not have any formal qualifications completion of two single units at an Australian higher education or equivalent overseas educational institution satisfy minimum entry requirements, but four units are recommended to be competitive for selection, especially in Humanities or Social Science areas. Applicants should have at least a 70% average in their studies (including failed units). Studies must have been completed within five years of intended commencement.
