Overview
This double degree course combines the deep focus of the Bachelor of Global Studies and the Bachelor of Information Technology.
The Bachelor of Global Studies aims to develop your leadership for social change by focusing on key capabilities: creativity, teamwork, intercultural collaboration, critical thinking, self-learning, and strong analytical and writing skills. You will cultivate a rich understanding of the interplay between local, regional, and global forces, equipping yourself with sharp analytical abilities and flexible, imaginative, and well-informed disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. All core units will allow you to apply your learning in practical and professional contexts
A key component of the course is a required period of study overseas that can be completed intensively at a Monash international campus or at a prestigious partner university.
Part of the required overseas component of the Bachelor of Global Studies can be completed by accessing the Monash Global Immersion Guarantee – a guaranteed funded overseas experience, which is one of Monash's Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE). The Global Immersion Guarantee provides you the opportunity to spend two weeks studying overseas, with airfares and accommodation all covered as part of the degree.
This Bachelor of Information Technology is about the application of computer-based technologies and systems to meet individual and organisational information needs. The course will enable you to gain the knowledge and skills needed to use IT effectively and to use, develop and manage IT-based systems. The flexibility of the course and the range of majors and minors will allow you to explore new areas, develop your strengths in IT and pursue your interests. It is a highly practical course that will prepare you for a career working with information and IT in business, government and industry.
The course covers a wide range of aspects of IT, from technical computing, which focuses on the technology itself, games and multimedia to information and business-related themes, which focus on information needs and the way in which IT can be used to support them. In addition to core studies in fundamental IT concepts, the course provides you with a choice of majors in your preferred fields of study, as well as the option to take a second major within IT or in another discipline. Knowledge and skills in IT coupled with the emphasis on generic skills problem solving, information literacy, communication and presentation skills, project management skills, and the capacity for team work will ensure that you have a firm foundation for a career in IT.
If you are an eligible student you may apply for the industry-based learning (IBL) placement program as part of the curriculum. Through the IBL placement program you will apply the skills and knowledge you have gained directly in a professional organisation.
