Overview

Businesses require people with a range of different skills and knowledge to keep them running profitably. This double degree in business and marketing gives you the opportunity to do more - you can study complementary areas to give you a genuine depth of study across business disciplines, build your portfolio of skills by studying different disciplines, and tailor your degree to increase your employability.

Your marketing studies will prepare you for a career as a marketing professional, while your business majors will give you additional skills to pursue expert roles in that industry, or give you the skills to work across industries.

Course structure

Rules
Where there is double up of units across the two single degrees, these units must be replaced by another unit. Up to six of these may be replaced by a unit from across the University, providing the prerequisites are met and there are no restrictions on admission to the units. You may also be able to use these replacement units to take a 12 or 24 credit point project, international experience or internship, or undertake a minor in a different discipline from your major.

You will complete your Bachelor of Marketing specialisation and one major in the Bachelor of Business. Where you have space in your degree you may complete a second major with no more than two units contributing towards both of your chosen majors or towards both a major and the specialisation.

You can enrich your degree to hone your academic and professional skills with a range of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE), including the Research, Experimentation and Discovery, Monash Innovation Guarantee and Global Immersion Guarantee. These flagship rich educational experience units may be credited in place of your replacement units if approved by the faculty. There are both 6 and 12 credit point unit options available.

If you are enrolled in a double degree it may be possible to use 6 credit points from each degree to do the Global Immersion Guarantee (12 credit points). For information on eligible double degree combinations please see Global Immersion Guarantee.

Business

B2000 Bachelor of Business is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete:

Part A. Business specified study

This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of business and expose you to several business disciplines. It will contribute breadth to your knowledge of business and develop your understanding of multi-disciplinary decision making in organisations. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.

Part B. Business listed major (excludes Marketing)

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study. Due to the double degree structure, the Marketing major is not available in this course.

Marketing

B2036 Bachelor of Marketing is a specialist course that develops through the themes of foundation business knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge and capstone experience.

Part A. Foundation business knowledge

This will provide you with a study of marketing and the impact they have on decision making in organisations.

Part B. Specialist discipline knowledge

These studies will develop your capacity as a critical and creative professional who is able to apply your knowledge of marketing to provide discipline based solutions for business. Units contained within the discipline may meet the requirements for professional accreditation bodies.

Part C. Capstone experience

The capstone unit will consolidate your knowledge and skills acquired through the study of your discipline and provide experience in multi-disciplinary processes and decision making.
