Overview

The focus of this course is the development of management capabilities in the context of dynamic organisational environments.

The course examines management practice in relation to the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), a United Nations-supported initiative that balances economic and sustainability goals. You will develop your capability as a future-ready manager aware of global impact and able to address complex and pressing global challenges. 

Aimed at career professionals with an undergraduate degree and work experience, or students who hold a cognate undergraduate degree seeking to strengthen their future or current career progression and enhance their management knowledge and skills, the course is suitable for those who occupy or aspire to management positions in business, government, community, service and non-profit organisations. It's designed to provide you with a comprehensive, intellectually demanding and up-to-date understanding of management/human resource management theory and practice.

Part B. Electives24 credit points
You must complete 24 credit points at either Level 4 or 5 from the Faculty of Business and Economics, which could include study tours, consulting projects or industry placements. In addition, units may be selected from across the University as long as you have the prerequisites and there are no restrictions on enrolling in the units.

You have the opportunity to choose elective units from the Supply Chain Management specialisation in the Master of Business if you wish to pursue studies in that area (see https://handbook.monash.edu/current/aos/SUPCHN01).

The course is structured in two parts: Part A. Mastery knowledge and Part B. Electives

Part A. Mastery knowledge

These units will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of core management principles, contemporary practice and leadership and their impact on multi-discipline decision-making in organisations. These units will develop your capacity as an innovative future-ready professional who is able to apply specialist knowledge to complex management issues.

Part B. Electives

These units will enable you to further develop and consolidate your knowledge of your degree. Electives may be taken from study tours, consulting projects or industry placements. Alternatively you can select units from across the University in which you are eligible to enrol.

Master's entry points

Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit (a form of block credit) which determines your point of entry to the course:

  • Students admitted at entry level 1 complete 72 credit points, comprising Part A and Part B.
  • Students admitted at entry level 2 complete 48 credit points, comprising Part A.

Note: Students eligible for credit for prior studies may elect not to receive the credit and complete the higher credit-point option.

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
