Master of Inclusive Education
D6014
Overview
This course is designed for qualified teachers who wish to develop specialist knowledge and skills in inclusive practices in classrooms and schools. All units of study within this course will develop your understanding of the human rights basis for inclusive education as well as the legislative obligations that govern the education of students with disability.
You will learn to apply contemporary frameworks such as the Multi-Tiered System of Supports, integrating Response to Intervention and Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports, and to use the principles of Universal Design. You will acquire the knowledge to implement these frameworks in practice to ensure that all students without exception are provided with an accessible, equitable and high-quality education, as well as targeted support on the basis of need, so that they can make good academic progress, engage positively, and thrive at school.
The course will equip you with sound knowledge of evidence-based practices in instruction and assessment for academic and behavioural learning as well as student wellbeing. You will develop your skills in collaborating with students and their families, as well as leading professional collaboration with other teachers, teaching assistants, allied health professionals and other organisations in your community. You will develop expertise in designing, implementing and evaluating personalised education plans for students with disability and complex support requirements across learning, behaviour, wellbeing and communication. In undertaking this course, you will learn how to locate, review, and synthesise robust research across these elements of inclusive education to inform your professional practice and to support you as a lifelong learner.
