Science
S2000 Bachelor of Science is a comprehensive course and it will provide you with a broad, general science education, as well as specialist training in one or more science disciplines. This course is structured in three parts. In this double degree you complete:
Part A. Science listed major and minor, or extended major
This part offers a coherent and in-depth program of study that allows you to develop expertise within one or more science disciplines. It supports both depth and breadth in your scientific education, enabling you to engage deeply with at least one chosen discipline while also gaining exposure to other areas of science. Through this flexible structure, you will explore different fields before refining your focus and build a strong disciplinary identity. You will develop advanced understanding of the core concepts and theoretical frameworks that underpin your discipline and learn to apply and communicate this knowledge effectively in scientific contexts.
Part B. Science specified study
This includes core requirements in mathematics, statistics or coding, ensuring you develop the quantitative foundations essential for scientific study, alongside a communication unit that supports the development of effective scientific communication skills. Together, these elements help build key capabilities that are highly valued across the workforce.
Computer science
C2001 Bachelor of Computer Science course is a specialist course that develops through the themes of computer science foundation study, professional skills study, specialist discipline knowledge, problem solving and analytic skills study, and professional skills study which come together in applied practice.
Part A. Foundation studies
This study will develop your understanding of the role and theoretical basis of computer science and computational methods.
Part B. Professional practice studies
This study develops professional skills by providing an understanding and appreciation of the ethical and professional guidelines applicable to computer science, developing the ability to work as an effective team member, developing the ability to communicate proficiently and appropriately for professional practice, and developing formal project management skills.
Part C. Specialist studies
This study will develop your in-depth knowledge of the specific computer science methods of your specialised field within computer science. You will develop your ability to apply appropriate methodologies in computer science and develop efficient computational solutions. It develops strong problem solving skills and the ability to apply analytical thinking.
Part D. Applied studies
The above knowledge and skills are integrated and consolidated in applied practice as demonstrated in a computer or data science project, and in some cases in an industry-based learning placement.
Course progression map
The course progression map provides guidance on unit enrolment for each semester of study.
You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Science (including all of the requirements in Parts A and B for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Computer Science (including all of the requirements in Parts A, B, C and D for the single degree).
In choosing the 96 credit points of Bachelor of Science listed study over Part A and Part B, you must ensure that you complete six science listed units (36 credit points) at Level 1 and ten science listed units (60 credit points) at Levels 2 and 3 with a minimum of four (24 credit points) at Level 3. You must complete the Mathematics and statistics unit requirement within the first 72 credit points of this double degree.
