This unit focuses on the rise of the digital economy and its impact on the tourism industry. Topics include new digital business models, changes in consumer behaviour, digital and social media marketing in tourism, virtual reality application, as well as the implications of disruptive innovation and advances in emerging technologies for tourism. Innovative and emerging research methodologies in tourism are studied including website data analytics, digital tracking and pattern recognition in 'big data' to assist tourism operations and market segmentation.
