Overview

This unit addresses three increasingly important and interlocking skills in the profession – translating in collaboration, multimodal translation, and translation in the digital space. It aims to familiarise you with the challenges a translator faces when translating across temporal and spatial barriers in the digital space and when translation requires the involvement of both human and non-human agents. Throughout the unit, you shall analyse how these challenges affect a translator’s work and examine the impact of newly emerging online translation practices on the work of professional translators. The unit covers various types of collaborative translation practices, such as translating by using cloud-based tools, post-editing machine translation outputs, translating multimodal content, online crowdsourcing translation, social media translation, and localisation activities.
