When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

demonstrate speaking, listening, reading and writing skills (and the corresponding appropriate vocabulary) to communicate effectively in Spanish in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;

recognise and use frequently used Spanish structures;

recognise and use when necessary a vocabulary of approximately 1000 Spanish words;

engage successfully in conversations and discussions in Spanish, and handle short social exchanges;

accurately locate information in basic texts in Spanish, including simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables, and understand short simple personal letters;

identify and discuss key aspects of modern Spanish and Latin American culture and societies, using written and audiovisual sources in Spanish.
