When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

   demonstrate advanced level proficiency through reading tasks engaging with increasingly complex authentic materials and writing activities that produce diverse genres of texts, and be able to read and write both independently and with assistance of dictionaries and appropriate digital technologies;

   recognise and effectively use 1000 common kanji, commensurate with JLPT N2 level, including familiarity with kanji frequently used in authentic materials and media;

   D\demonstrate advanced level proficiency in speaking and listening comprehension including unassisted competent communication with others about a variety of sophisticated topics related to Japanese culture and society and your individual professional pursuits using appropriate speech styles in both casual and spontaneous conversations and formal presentations;

   employ sophisticated research and critical thinking skills in analysis of aspects of Japanese culture and society based on finding, engaging and using relevant authentic materials in Japanese and digital technologies and effectively communicating research findings and processes orally and textually;

   understand the differences between textbook language and real-life use of language including demonstrating sensitivity to sociolinguistic and sociocultural aspects of communication, pragmatics, and effective interactions in cross-cultural and cross-linguistic as well as academic and professional contexts.
