Perfusion principles and practice 2: Practical applications
CVP5003
Synopsis
In this unit you will be introduced to the applications of perfusion technology, with a focus on the core conduct of bypass: cannulation, initiation, myocardial protection, and weaning. You will explore technologies to personalise bypass to the patient for improved outcomes, such as filtration, autologous priming and cerebral oximetry.
You will then consider options for patients struggling to separate from cardiopulmonary bypass and explore longer-term mechanical circulatory support including ECMO and VADs. Mastery of these domains in accordance with the Australian and New Zealand College of Perfusionists’ (ANZCP) Standards and Guidelines is essential for effective clinical practice.
