Design for digital fabrication
DGN2211
Synopsis
This unit introduces foundational knowledge of digital fabrication, focusing on Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, and CNC machining. Through an iterative design process, you will develop and refine technical and critical thinking skills while considering the ethical, social, and environmental implications of manufacturing. You will explore how to transform 2D materials into 3D forms and gain hands-on experience in designing, detailing, and fabricating physical models from CAD designs. This knowledge will support the creation of innovative, real-world solutions that align with sustainable and responsible design practices. Students wanting to undertake this unit should be familiar with 3D CAD software.
