Industrial design studio 2
IDN1002
Synopsis
This unit deepens your understanding of the relationship between design, production, and manufacturing processes. Through hands-on studio explorations, you will investigate how production methods and material choices impact the design of an object, building an appreciation for the interdependence of form, function, and manufacture. Key topics include various manufacturing techniques, the implications of materiality on design outcomes, and the balance between rational and creative approaches in industrial design practice.
You will be encouraged to take an experimental approach to problem-solving, applying theoretical insights to practical challenges. Project work will be documented in a production-ready folio, showcasing your process and technical considerations. Where applicable, final design proposals will be presented as detailed models or prototypes, demonstrating your ability to translate conceptual ideas into tangible solutions.
