Overview

This unit offers an introduction to education as a profession, and supports you with foundational knowledge, skills and understandings as you embark on teaching as a profession. You will work with a range of structures, educative frameworks and models that support, inform or regulate practice (including Monash ready2teach curriculum, child safety, teacher standards, improvement frameworks and relevant codes of conduct and ethics). You will build your professional skills, knowledge and understandings of teaching through a process of personal inquiry, exploration of exemplary practices and compliance with requirements. You will represent these as a linked network of concepts that collectively build to explain the context, roles and requirements of a professional teacher. A combination of individual and group reflective activities, online modules, and contextual case study analyses will provide the learning contexts for this foundational unit.
