Advanced clinical interventions for mental health
EDF5570
Synopsis
This unit is concerned with developing a sound evidence-based understanding of educational and developmental interventions that are required for working with individuals across the lifespan. Identification and interventions for high-incidence psychological disorders including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, substance-use disorders and disorders of childhood are a focus. In this unit you will develop an understanding of and skills in motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioural therapies and emotionally focused therapy. Risk assessment of suicidality and psychosis is addressed. The use of psychoeducation based on the bio-psycho-social model of psychological disorders underpins intervention models. Practices that promote learning, socialisation, assertive communication, relaxation and emotional regulation are introduced. Ethical, legal, and case formulation issues are considered.
