Overview

Designing effective online learning requires educators to carefully design for different forms of interaction and collaboration. This unit equips you to understand how, when and why interactivity and social learning activities can enhance digitally enabled learning experiences. You will explore theory, models and strategies that can guide your designs utilising a range of technologies and pedagogical approaches. This includes maximizing the benefit from discussion forums, online testing, simulation and collaborative environments ranging from cloud based documents through to immersive virtual worlds. Along the way you will become familiar with the challenges, dilemmas and risks, including those surrounding social media.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

(a.) Contact hours for flexible students:

  • 12 contact hours and 12 hours equivalent of online activities over the semester; or
  • 24 hours equivalent of online activities over the semester*

*International students studying in Australia are not permitted to undertake this contact hour delivery mode
