Overview

This clinical unit focuses on preparing you for the transition to practice as a registered nurse. The unit is grounded in adult learning principles, encouraging you to be self-directed in identifying your learning needs. In preparing you for the transition to health professional, the unit explores teamwork, inter-professional practice, resilience, self-management and emotional intelligence. The unit is informed by national clinical priority issues: communication, medication safety and care of the deteriorating patient.

    Critically evaluate the clinical management principles of the acutely deteriorating patient

    Evaluate the contribution of teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration in the provision of quality nursing care

    Undertake complex nursing activities in a range of clinical settings and effectively apply prioritising, problem solving and time management skills

    Critically reflect on their own actions, professional development and on the nature of nursing practice in relation to the nursing management of clients' health needs

    Reflect on, and evaluate, self-performance related to knowledge, skills and delivery of nursing care

    Practice with increasing independence at a beginning registered nurse level in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered nurse standards for practice, Code of conduct for nurses and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) code of ethics for nurses.
