Overview
Descriptive statistics, scatter plots, correlation, line of best fit. Elementary probability theory. Confidence intervals and hypothesis tests using normal, t and binomial distributions. Use of computer software. Formal treatment of statistical analyses and the role of probability in statistical inference.

Describe the key steps of the scientific method and apply them to real problems involving data analysis and interpretation;

Explain how statistical data are collected, analyzed, and stored;

Calculate and interpret population parameters such as mean, standard deviation, and median;

Evaluate the importance of statistical techniques in data analysis;

Present and interpret data graphically;

Calculate confidence intervals for population parameters and differentiate between a population parameter and a sample statistic;

Select the appropriate statistical technique for a given context;

Perform simple statistical operations using Excel;

Take a random sample from a population and determine whether data fits a statistical hypothesis;

Prepare and write a scientific report.
