Overview
The archaeology and ancient history program studies societies in the past from the greater Mediterranean world and Australia. You will explore how you can use the physical remains, texts, and oral narratives of communities to understand the past and its relevance to the present. Core studies span 65,000 years of Indigenous communities in Australia as well as study of the Ancient Mediterranean world including Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece and Rome. The approach of this major is multi-disciplinary. You will explore how people in the past lived, buried their dead, governed, interacted with their environments, and made sense of their world. You will discover how archaeology and ancient history speaks to contemporary issues in cultural heritage studies including ethical practice, new methodologies, and innovative ideas applied to the past. You will learn to communicate how the past can help us understand and shape the present.
