Overview

The archaeology and ancient history program studies ancient societies from the greater Mediterranean world and Australia. You will explore how you can use the physical remains of communities to understand the past and its relevance to the present. The approach of this major is multi-disciplinary. You incorporate information from archaeology, history, anthropology, art history, landscape studies, archaeozoology, and archaeobotany to create a broad and deep view of the ancient world. Core studies span 65,000 years of human communities  and include pathways that focus on the Ancient Mediterranean  including Egypt, Anatolia, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece and Rome, and on Indigenous Australia. Themes include the study of settlements and cemeteries, politics, technologies, economies, visual and literary cultures, religions, myth, gender and sexuality.
