Overview

Environmental engineers create innovative solutions for sustainable development. You will acquire skills, knowledge and experience in ecology and biodiversity; material and energy balances; thermodynamics; materials properties and recycling; hydrology; environmental risk and impact assessment; management systems; energy and the environment; and sustainability and the law.

In this specialisation, you will have the opportunity to also pursue a minor in an engineering discipline that complements environmental engineering.

Availability
Environmental engineering is listed in E3001 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Clayton as an undergraduate specialisation.

Structure

Parts C. and D. Environmental engineering knowledge, application and professional practice108 credit points
Part E. Elective study - Specialisation36 credit points

Studying single degree engineering

36 credit points
In single degree engineering, you must complete 36 credit points of elective study after Year 1. In Year 2, the 12 points of electives can be level 1, 2 or 3 units from engineering or other faculties.
In Years 3 and 4, the 24 points of electives must be level 3, 4 or 5 units and from your engineering specialisation technical electives list.
Electives must be completed at the required unit level to satisfy the course requirements. You may also use the elective study to complete an engineering minor that will complement your specialisation.

Environmental engineering technical electives

36 credit points
You may consider other engineering technical units chosen from the engineering minors, subject to meeting the unit prerequisite or co-requisite rules.

Studying a double degree with engineering

The 36 credit points of specialisation engineering technical electives normally required in the single degree have been credited towards the double degree structure and therefore not a requirement in the double degree courses.
