Structure

Rules
You must complete 144 credit points, comprising:
- Part C. Core specialist studies (108 credit points);
- Part D. Professional practice (0 credit points); and
- Part E. Elective studies (36 credit points).
Part C. Core specialist studies108 credit points
You must complete 108 credit points, comprising:
- the following units (102 credit points); and
- one unit (6 credit points) from the Technical electives list.

Note 1: In Year 2, you may be eligible to apply for selection into the Faculty of Information Technology’s Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program. If accepted, you will complete FIT4042 (an 18-credit point placement) in Semester 2 of Year 3 instead of FIT4002 and one software engineering elective unit (6 credit points).

Note 2: E3010 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Computer Science double degree students - you must replace FIT2115 and MAT1830 with two approved elective units from Part E. Technical electives due to content overlap.
Part D. Professional practice
Continuous professional development is a crucial part of meeting the requirements to be a Professional Engineer.

Clayton campus students: To meet the Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competency Standard to be a Professional Engineer you must enrol in ENG0001 in your final year and satisfy the professional development requirements.

Malaysia campus students: To meet the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia industrial training requirements to be a Professional Engineer, you must enrol in ENG0002 in the second semester of your third year and complete the industrial training.
Part E. Elective studies36 credit points
You must complete 36 credit points, comprising:
- In year 2: 12 credit points at Level 1, 2 or 3 from the Faculty of Engineering or other faculties;
- In years 3 and 4: 24 credit points at Level 3, 4 or 5 from the Technical electives list.

Note 1: Electives must be completed at the required unit level to satisfy the course requirements.

Note 2: When selecting your elective units, you must ensure you meet the unit prerequisites or co-requisite rules.

Note 3: You may enrol in up to two units (12 credit points) at Level 5. To be eligible to enrol in Level 5 units, you must obtain a weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 or above at the conclusion of Level 3 and be in your final year of study. If you intend to enrol in the Master of Engineering, completing Level 5 units that are core in the Master's course will reduce the total duration of your Master's study.

Double degree students are not required to complete this Part. The 36 credit points of technical electives have been credited towards the double degree structure and therefore are not a requirement in the double degree courses.

Notes

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is a compulsory requirement for all Engineering students. You must complete 420 hours of continuous professional development in order to graduate with the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) qualification. It is a collection of all work including volunteer, personal and professional practice experiences outside the classroom which may be in the form of 12 weeks of relevant vacation employment or an equivalent combination of approved professional development and/or engineering employment taken throughout the duration of the course. You must submit a series of reflections on your experience with particular reference to the development of each of the key Engineers Australia Stage 1 competencies. Visit the Student Experience website for more information about professional development.

The Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia has similar professional experience requirements. Further information is available on the Industrial training website.
