Overview

This double degree course combines the deep focus of the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics and the flexibility of the Bachelor of Arts.

The Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BPPE) is an innovative degree that equips graduates with the intellectual and practical skills necessary to comprehend and navigate the changing world in the 21st century. Graduates will finish their BPPE having mastered the main ideas shaping our understanding of the social world. They will move beyond existing frameworks by studying at the creative intersections between politics, philosophy and economics. This interdisciplinary grounding will culminate in practical, skills-based applications of the conceptual tools provided by the BPPE to produce graduates ready for the challenges and possibilities of the century ahead.

The  Bachelor of Arts is designed to give you maximum flexibility and choice. You can choose from over forty areas study to build a genuinely transformative experience. The course is built around deeply enriching experiences, including local and international internships, professional engagements and entrepreneurial opportunities, and the choice of over fifty global immersion programs. You will build a unique graduate profile, preparing you to live and work in complex and culturally diverse environments. You may like to continue on in your learning journey and complete honours or postgraduate study.

Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics

The course develops through two themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the key challenges facing the global community and in-depth expertise in your specialised area of study to enable you to effect change and develop the necessary knowledge and skills to be innovative leaders in responding to political, philosophical and economic challenges.

Part A. Analysis, strategy and leadership

You will develop a foundational understanding of politics, philosophy and economics as a complex phenomenon, its social, economic and political impact, and the advantages and limitations associated with different strategies to address it and the perspectives you need to make a real impact.

Part B. Politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) specialist knowledge

These units will provide in-depth knowledge of the specific facet of PPE that comprises your specialisation, providing you with the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge needed to critically analyse, communicate and apply your disciplinary knowledge.

Bachelor of Arts

This is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree you complete:

Part A. Arts specified study (48 points)

This will expose you to several arts disciplines areas of study contributing breadth to your knowledge of the arts, humanities and social sciences. It will also give you the opportunity to learn about several areas of study before finalising your choice of major and minor.

Part B. Arts listed major (48 points)

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your practical and theoretical skills and knowledge in one Faculty of Arts listed major area of study. You will learn to critically analyse, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of the area of study.

Students must complete 192 points, of which 96 points are from the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree) and 96 points from the Bachelor of Arts (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree).

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites.

VET Diploma graduates: To be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with a Humanities or Social Science based diploma will require an average result of at least 70%. Applicants who have not completed VCE but have completed a Humanities or Social Science based diploma will require an average result of at least 80% Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements.

University: To be considered on the basis of tertiary study alone, applicants who have completed VCE or equivalent will be required to complete the equivalent of one year (48 credit points) of a recognised university degree and will require an average result of at least 70% (including failed units). For applicants who have completed less than the equivalent of one year of study, both the senior secondary qualification results and the units completed will be considered.

For applicants who do not have any formal qualifications completion of two single units at an Australian higher education or equivalent overseas educational institution satisfy minimum entry requirements, but four units are recommended to be competitive for selection, especially in Humanities or Social Science areas. Applicants should have at least a 70% average in their studies (including failed units). Studies must have been completed within five years of intended commencement.
