You’ll learn how to work independently, think critically and make analytical decisions, while being introduced to the business concepts and theory you’ll need for University.

In the second year, you'll study the same units as your first-year University students and develop your specialist knowledge of business and commerce.

This course is structured in two parts Part A. Foundation knowledge and Part B. Discipline knowledge.

Part A. Foundation studies

These units will provide you with the foundational business concepts and theory and practical skills you’ll need for University.

Part B. Discipline studies

These units are first-year University units that will provide you with specialist knowledge in business and commerce to enable progression to your destination bachelor degree.

Units are 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.

Part A. Foundation studies (50 credit points)

You must complete the following nine units (50 credit points):

  • MMD1010 Accounting 101

  • MMD1020 Management 101

  • MMD1110 Introduction to data analysis

  • MMD1690 Economics 101

Part B. Discipline studies (48 credit points)

You must complete one of the following streams, which is aligned to a major in your destination bachelor degree (48 credit points):

BBUSCOM - Accountancy stream

You must complete the following units:

  • AMU1018 Introduction to academic research

  • BFW1001 Foundations of finance

  • ACW1120 Financial accounting 1

  • ECM1953 Principles of economics

  • AMU1017 Academic literacies

  • ETW1001 Introduction to statistical analysis

  • MGW1010 Introduction to management

  • BTW1042 Business law

BBUSCOM General business and commerce stream

You must complete eight units (48 credit points) from the following units:

Note. You must complete either MGW1010 or BTW1042. Only one of these units can count towards the 48 credit points required.

  • ACW1020 Accounting in business

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:
