Overview
With this double degree in commerce and music you can follow your passion and gain essential skills that will help you take your music career to the next level, or pursue the commercial aspects of music.
You will receive a high-quality tertiary music education, specialising in composition and music technology, music performance or popular music. You'll combine this with a major in commerce, such as actuarial studies, finance, marketing science or management studies, perhaps to help you manage business requirements either for yourself or across the music industry.

You can enrich your degree to hone your academic and professional skills with a range of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE), including the Research, Experimentation and Discovery, Monash Innovation Guarantee and Global Immersion Guarantee. These flagship rich educational experience units may be credited in place of your additional commerce unit if approved by the faculty, or alternatively utilising your replacement units. There are both 6 and 12 credit point unit options available.

Commerce component96 credit points
If you are completing the Accounting major as part of your double degree, please note ECX2953 is required for professional accreditation.
Music component96 credit points
You must complete no more than 36 credit points of Level 1 Arts units and at least 36 credit points at Level 3 of which at least 24 credit points must be Arts units.

Commerce
B2001 Bachelor of Commerce is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete:
Part A. Commerce specified study
This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of commerce and expose you to several commerce disciplines. This will contribute breadth to your knowledge of commerce and address the graduate course outcomes. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.
Part B. Commerce listed major
This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study.
Music
A2003 Bachelor of Music is a specialist course that develops through the three themes of music specialist study, music theory and ear training, and music context study.
Part A. Music specialist study
This sequence of units will provide you with specialist skills to undertake a final examination either through performance with your chief instrument or voice, or through a folio of composition and music technology media or written work. Performance and other applied electives are also available.
Part B. Music theory and ear training
This will integrate the development of aural skills with the theoretical understanding of music through listening, analysis, performance, notation and composition.
Part C. Music context studies
These studies will expose you to the study of music and music making in various cultural, historical, social and professional settings through introductory units and a capstone experience.
Course progression map
The course progression map provides guidance on unit enrolment for each semester of study.
You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Commerce (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Music (including all of the requirements in Part A, B and C for the single degree).
You will complete your Bachelor of Music specialisation and one major in the Bachelor of Commerce. Where you have space in your degree you may complete a second major with no more than two units contributing towards both of your chosen majors or towards both a major and the specialisation.

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites.
VET Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma graduates:
Applicants will require a minimum 70% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not be sufficient to meet admission requirements.

Monash University Foundation Year average: 76.25%
Higher education studies:
Applicants will be require a minimum 70% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. A minimum of two single units must be completed in order to meet minimum admission requirements.

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
