Overview
This unit aims to provide an opportunity for students to gain work experience in the context of a laboratory program. Students will work in research teams, mentored by a career researcher, to develop and execute an experimental plan to address a research question. They will be guided in the development of skills in experimental design, ethical conduct and specific techniques via a series of workshops. Students will be required to keep appropriate experimental records and communicate regularly with their mentor and peers to coordinate their weekly activities and collect data that will be presented via a min-conference in the final week of the unit. Throughout the unit research careers in academic, research institutes and industry will be highlighted.
