Enrolment rules

In order to enrol in this unit you must lodge an online application via https://sites.google.com/monash.edu/bme3030

If you are enrolled in M2003 - Bachelor of Biomedical Science:  You must have passed the prerequisite units: BMS2011, BMS2021, BMS2031, BMS2042, BMS2052 and BMS2062 with an average grade of at least 60 (Credit) across these units to enrol in BME3030.

If you are enrolled in S2000 - Bachelor of Science, S3001 - Bachelor of Science Advanced - Global Challenges (Honours), S3002 - Bachelor of Science Advanced - Research (Honours):  You must have completed all first and second level units in your approved major (accepted majors include: Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Human Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology and Physiology) with an average grade of at least 60 (Credit).

Overview

In this unit, you will gain work experience through the completion of a laboratory-based research project. You will work in a small research team, mentored by a career researcher, to plan and conduct a series of experiments to address a novel research question. To support your work in the lab, you will be guided in the development of skills in experimental design, ethical conduct and specific techniques via a series of workshops and lab skill training sessions. You will be required to keep appropriate experimental records and communicate regularly with your mentor and peers to coordinate and carry out a research project and report on your findings. Throughout the unit research careers in academic, research institutes and industry will be highlighted.
