Successful completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited fourth year sequence in psychology.

Overview

The aim of this unit is to develop general professional psychological competencies in the assessment of cognitive abilities and some neuropsychological constructs. You will undertake advanced exploration and analysis of the psychological testing process, including scholarly consideration and debate of psychometric approaches to cognitive and intellectual assessment across the lifespan. Theories and methods of assessment, and issues of validity and reliability, cultural and ethical considerations, and linguistic factors will be considered. You will acquire skills in the administration, scoring and interpretation of pertinent psychological tests, integration of assessment data from multiple sources, and appropriate report writing. You will also develop skills in constructive critical appraisal and clinical judgment in the assessment of learning difficulties, intellectual disability, giftedness, memory, and information processing. Case conceptualisation and intervention planning skills will also be developed.

A. On campus delivery

• 24 hours of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities; and
• the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study

B. Flexible delivery

• 24 hours of scheduled learning of which 6 hours will be deliverd on campus and 18 hours will be delivered online via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed learning activities; and
• the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study

Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.

You will be provided with the opportunity to engage with relevant literature and resources. Further, you will be encouraged to deepen your understanding of topic areas through collegial discussion and debate, and by participating in activities designed to extend your understanding.
