Overview
This unit introduces the study of language, examining a range of theoretical perspectives on language and language learning. It also explores how digital technologies have altered (and continue to alter) the nature of language and language use, highlighting the growing importance of digital literacies for language learners. In this unit, you will reflect on ideas around language, considering the complex communicative repertoires required for a contemporary diverse socio-cultural, multilingual and technology-driven world. The unit also engages with recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and examines their implications for understanding and learning languages. Opportunities will be provided for you to apply knowledge gained in the unit to your own experiences with language(s) and future teaching and learning.
