Integrating language and content in content-based programs
EDF5639
Synopsis
This unit explores pedagogies that integrate language and content in content-based programs. You will learn how to apply pedagogical principles to practice as you develop and critically analyse a program of work. Pedagogical approaches will include working with context-embedded and context-reduced language, grammatical structures alongside the teaching of content (form-focused instruction), language analysis, genre-based pedagogy, cross-linguistic pedagogies, and assessment. Collaboration between English language teachers and subject area teachers will be a further focus of reflection. You will investigate the integration of content and language by making connections between research and pedagogy, and applying principles to both local and global contexts of teaching and learning.
